Acanthus leaves was a complexly dense and subtly shaded wallpaper which
required 30 printing blocks and 15 colours,
causing each roll to cost 16 shillings - rather expensive in 1875.
The original watercolour design is in the Victoria & Albert Museum,
Acanthus plant is found in the decoration of many ancient cultures.
William Morris used it extensively.
The original silk wall-hanging which inspired these kits is now at the
Victoria & Albert Museum, London
and was designed by Morris in about 1880.
